Stourbridge Carnival Recognises Kingswinford & Stourbridge Lions
Stourbridge Carnival this year celebrated 25 years of community
carnivals in Stourbridge. During this time Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions
have attended every year providing either support to the organising committee
and helping with the marshalling of the road closures in the early years or in
recent years the organising 1 or more stalls, we will long be remembered for
our famous donuts which we sold from our catering van at the top of Lower High
Street.
The Carnival has over the last 25 years provided a fun packed Sunday
day out for the local residents with parades, fun fairs, stalls and activities
throughout the town centre, this has given not just Kingswinford and
Stourbridge Lions but also the many other charity organisations within the
local area the means to raise money for the many worthwhile local causes that
we all support.
In recognition of the contribution that Kingswinford and Stourbridge
Lions have made to the Carnival over the past 25 years Lion Rod Owen (who has
attended the Carnival since it started) and this year’s President Lion Rob Owen
were invited onto the stage by the Carnival Chairman David Harcourt to
officially open the Carnival and present certificates to participants of the
Parade.
Following the Official opening of the Carnival, David Harcourt
presented a certificate to Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions recognising
“Outstanding contribution and achievement for over 25 years to the Stourbridge
Carnival”

Lions get down and dirty
Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions Club visited Priory Park, in Dudley, to assist the Dudley Lions Club with their tree planting. Two beds of Azaleas and Rhododendrons were planted under the supervision of the DMBC Parks Department. We took the perfect weather with us! it was bright and sunny even though a little chilly at first. Five Club members attended plus one granddaughter and as well as the Dudley Lions were were aided by our District Governor and Second Vice District Governor. We were complimented by the Parks Department on the speed at which we had worked and on the professional looking finish to the completed beds.

Presentation Evening
On Monday 30th January 2012 representatives from 17 various charity organisations, who braved the cold and rain in December accompanying Father Christmas and his sleigh around the streets of Kingswinford, Wall Heath, Stourbridge, and Oldswinford, in addition to those who assisted with collections outside Debenhams, Sainsbury’s Withymoor and Aldi Wollaston, were invited to Stourbridge Institute to receive a cheque donation for their charity at our annual Presentation Evening.
Our guest for the evening, Graham Fisher MBE, Chairman of the Bridge Radio, along with Lion James Zulik presented the cheques.
Amongst those receiving a donation this year was: Compton Hospice, Cancer Research UK, The County Air Ambulance, RNLI Brierley Hill & Kingswinford and Stourbridge branches, Oldswinford Youth Football Club, Support our Soldiers (Dudley), Wolverhampton and Dudley Lions Clubs.
We would once again like to thank these organisations for their help and assistance without which we would not be able to do the Santa Runs.
